Nakhon Chaisi Pomelo in Nakhon Pathom Destination : Nakhon Pathom Category : Suggested trip

From the title you guys all know where I’m taking you to today, right?

Yes! It is Nakhon Pathom Province just next to Bangkok! Let’s take a short ride to our destination and indulge in the beautiful scenery alongside.

When talking about Nakhon Pathom, most of you probably think about many tourist spots like Phra Pathom Chedi, Sanam Chandra Palace, Samphran Park, Wat Rai Khing, and all the floating markets. These are all the top-hit places in the province.

But besides being a famous destination, Nakhon Pathom is also home to a number of tropical fruits and foods. And the most famous one of the province is pomelo!

I have heard that Nakhon Pathom produces the best pomelo in Thailand. There are 2 breeds of pomelo produced here that is well-known to Thai people: the Khao Namphueng breed and the Thong Di breed. Every year, the event Nakhon Chaisi Pomelo Day is held. In the event there are many activities such as the Best Pomelo Contest. You can try many dishes made from the delicious pomelo at this festival. This year it will be arranged on September 24-30 at Wat Rai Khing, Sam Phran District, Nakhon Pathom.

If you are planning on visiting Nakhon Pathom, all I can tell you is that you will get all the best of everything you need for a short trip! Now please excuse me for a savory pomelo dish in Nakhon Pathom!

  How to get there

From Bangkok, drive along the old route of Petchakasem Road (Highway No.4) through Aom Noi, Aom Yai, and Sam Phran to Nakhon Pathom, or drive on the new route from Bangkok through Buddhamonthon and Nakhon Chaisi to Nakhon Pathom.

Insider tips
Diving the Adaman Sea

A new diving center just opened in Ranong, the smiling seahorse and they offer great cruises from Ranong to the Surin islands and Burma (Mergui archipelago) some of the best spots I have ever dived and still untouched by mass tourism. their website:

The cheap one can find If you try enough. !!

Pristine beaches of Coral Islands

Fantastic, thats what I can describe the Coral Islands. Believe!!Gods themselves may came down to earth to have a great time in the white sand beaches present here. Really good place to hang out and the beaches here may be comparable with the best available in the world to the likes of Hawaii, Havelock (Andamans, India), Kovalam (Kerala, India)etc. On the way to coral island from Pattaya, there are ample opportunities for water sports like para sailing (350 baht), deep sea walking (1200 baht) etc. But one annoying thing during my entire time at Thailand is the high cost of everything and it seems Thailand Govt is giving a free hand to the hospitality sector in fleecing the tourists.

Shopping in Thailand

Before embarking in Thailand, we were given good tips by our Indian Travel Agent to be careful about our handbags/purses as there is widespread incidence of snatching/mugging etc in the streets of Thailand. After getting down in Bangkok, our local guide has given some tips which included the kinds of items that can be purchased during the shopping. We were mainly taken to the Indra Market. But to our dismay we found most of the items were overpriced and many shop keepers were very rude and rowdies. Initially when we were strolling in the lanes of Indra market, we found many Indian families fighting with shop keepers. However, when our turn came to do some bargaining during the shopping, we were disappointed with the quarrelsome attitude of the shop keepers. For example, we tried a soap balloon gun (toy) for my daughter, which was offered for 50 baht. Before purchasing I requested the shop owner (lady) to operate and confirm that the piece is perfect. However, it was found that the piece was defective and even after that she was quarrelling with us forcing us to purchase that defective unit. We went to this market for two days; on second day also we had unpleasant experience with respect to the quarrelsome attitude of shop keepers. My wife was so much annoyed that she has sworn never to shop anything from Thailand hereafter due to these type of bad experience as well as high price of most of the commodities (all the commodities sold in indra market are cheaper in Indian market!!). It is also a matter of concern that Thailand Government is having blind eye in encouraging such practices of shop keepers of Indra market (other wise how these people will fleece tourists). All the tourists may beware of the quarrelsome/forcing tactics of shop keepers of Bangkok. Incidentally, we have to admit that shopping was a pleasurable experience in Singapore and Malaysia compared to the painful shopping experience in Thailand. It is high time that Thailand Governement should act practively so that Tourists are not made scape goats at the hands of unruly shop keepers.
